ANNUAL MEMBER APPRECIATION DINNER

Posted on October 24, 2022 at 12:45 AM Comments comments (0)

DECEMBER 30th, 2022 at LA HACIENDA

THE OFFICIAL INVITATION WILL GO OUT IN EARLY DECEMBER

Each year we have a Free member apreciation dinner to honor you, our members, and recognize our many volunteers who make this club so great! This event replaces our usual December monthly meeting event on the last Friday of the month.

Dinner is FREE to our members with one exception. If you joined as a new member in the last quarter of 2022 begining on October 1st, your membership included the 2023 membership year. As a result, your free dinner will be available for 2023 only. You will be welcome to join us, but will be charged for your dinner as a guest. Members are also welcome to bring guests with advance dinner reservations and payments. This year's amount is TBD.

Each year at this event we roll out our new billiards gift for you and continue to pass out to anyone who couldn't attend when we see you at various events througout the year. You will also receive a free ticket for door prizes on event night.

We have been fortunate in the past with members donating items for that part of our appreciation program. New items and or services that we can offer as prizes such as a free billiards lessons, tip or cue repair, gift cards, certificates, or theme park tickets you won't use, or any other new item that you would like to pay forward and donate would be put to good use. If you have something to contribute, please let Gale know and we will add them to the list of door prizes.

We won't be taking reservations for this event before the official Invitation goes out in early December.

I HAVE A DREAM!

DO YOU LIKE TO WRITE OR WERE YOU A JOURNALIST IN YOUR PAST?

✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍

You may have noticed that billiards is like the red headed step child in The Villages media publications! When I send an article or press release to the paper, it may or may not get reported or covered, and if I don't, nothing appears in print! Thanks to club secretary Nita Swift weekly league and tournament results get posted, most of the time, and that's it! AND, though other sports may get human interest stories or reports on important activities in the Lifestyle section, billiards NEVER does! Billiards is perhaps the least althetic sport there is, and for many is social. Yet, our few and far between articles or notices get buried in the sports section where many of our members would never see it!

AND IT AIN'T RIGHT!

But I can't do it all! If you have had experience in the past with writing press releases or articles for the media and would consider giving back to the club, I'd like to talk to you.

If you have interest in reporting on our various events, tournments, leagues, and activities and doing spotlights on our members, and would be willing to send press releases and info to the newspaper, add to our facebook page, and create short news articles for the website, it would be a great service to the club and our sport.

Any, and/or all of the above would be amazing!

THANKS,

Gale

Posted on October 21, 2022 at 4:55 PM Comments comments (0)
TIME FOR OUR MEMBERSHIP TO RENEW!

Our VBC membership is 6 members shy of 600 members and we've begun our 2023 renewal campaign!

If you just joined the club as of October 1st, your membership includes 2023. If you are uncertain if your membership includes 2023, you can contact Wendy Lord who keeps track of the dates you joined.

The renewal process is time consuming with so many members so we ask that you renew your membership for 2023 at your earliest convenience.

During Covid, we reduced the annual dues since we were unable to offer many activities. However, we are back in full swing so dues has returned to our pre-covid amount of $10 dues per calendar year.

Four Ways to Pay:

1. Mail your check made out to "The VBC" to Treasurer Wendy Lord at 955 Cambridge Court, The Villages, Fl 32162

2. Pay at our Monthly Membership Meeting

3. Pay any VBC Board member in person

4. Pay Now with a credit card on our Home Page - make sure you choose renewal for Single or Couple

2022 Men's & Women's Invitational

2022 Men's & Women's Invitational Report

Congratulations to the American "Red" Teams who ruled the Invitational event this year!

Captains Joe Conway & Nita Swift led their teams to victory with total team scores of 22 and 11 respectively. National "Blue" Team captains were Tom Mayo and Kyril Monts.

On the Men's side, TOP performer for the entire event and his American Team was Bill Swift with a perfect score of 20, never losing a match all weekend! He was followed by his captain Joe Conway, with 19. On the National Team, Howard Couch, Steve Hancharick, and Tom Mayo tied for first on their team with 17 wins each.

Women who tied for first were Terry Fickett, Sharon Manz, Maxine Yeager, and Bobbi Yush for the American Team, and Robin Huey, Diane Litynski and Donna Saunders for the Nationals.

I earlier incorrectly reported that Maxine Yeager was to be Next year's captain for the Americans. However, it will be Eileen Connolly for the Americans and Donna Saunders for the Nationals. While this years American and National Captains Joe Conway & Tom Mayo will go for a re-match and Captain their teams again next year!

Photos of the annual event can be seen by going to the pictures tab on this website, thanks to VBC member Roger Vigrass. As always, we want to thank Roger for his time & expertise in not only taking the photos but editing and posting them for us to see!

The concession per usual was successful in helping us defray the cost of this event. Player Team Jerseys represent our largest expense and our concession net profit including daily sales and cash donations was over $1200 this year which will take a big bite out of our expenses this year. Thanks To Pam MacMann for her endless effort & time to help run the concession. She helps make the concession possible! Thanks also to the MANY of you who donated Cash, Beverages & Food, as well as All Who Made Donations for Snacks And Meal of the Day during the event. It could not happen without YOU ALL!

An EXTRA BIG and SPECIAL thank you goes out to Wendy Lord for her hard work at organizing and overseeing the event from the drafting process all the way to the end, handing out the team photos and plaques.

Others who need recognition for their invaluable contributions are the Teams Coaches, event Score Keepers, and Officials Wayne Anderson and Larry Russo who help make this a really special billiards event for the VBC!

February Cup Teams Drafted

Posted on November 14, 2019 at 2:10 PM Comments comments (0)
Cup Organizer Wendy Lord held the Feeney & Ladies Cup drafts for 2020 on Tuesday Nov 12th. Captains chose from a list of draftees made up of players that responded to the call in early November. We want to thank all players who signed up! Sign ups were vigerous which was great for Captains to make their picks, but it's always unfortunate for those players who are not drafted. Each team can only draft 13 players each year, always having to leave some interested players out. We hope that those players will find a way to enjoy and participate in the event by being scorekeepers and coming to cheer their favorite teams on to victory! (Sign ups for scorekeepers will not take place until after the first of the year.

We also want to announce that for the first time in the history of the Feeney Cup, "Preacher" Don Feeney will be playing this year in the event that was named after him!  On day 1 he will team up with Captain Mark Snodgrass and play a match of 8 ball doubles against a National Team. On day 2 he will team up with Captain Rich Ross and play a match of 9 ball doubles against an American Team. We're all excited and looking forward to watching "Preacher" play in the competition that was named after him.

Please help us congratulate the players for the 2020 Feeney & Ladies Cup Tournaments & we hope to see you all at the event in Febraury! Men play Thu. Feb. 6th at 9am, and Sat. & Sun. Feb. 7th & 8th at 2pm. Ladies play the following weekend on Fri. - Sun., Feb.14th - 16th at 2pm.

A scam selling supplents using the Villagesbc email address!

It Recently Came To My Atttention That A VBC Member Received An Email Touting Supplements That You Should Buy.

You will NEVER receive a legitimate email from me or the vbc selling any kind of product, with the exception of our pro shop equipment!

In the event that you get something like this, it is a scam and you should delete it immediately & notify me so I can send out a warning to our members.

If for some reason you aren't sure?

In a seperate new email contact me and ask if it is legit ot not.

Senior Games

Posted on May 1, 2019 at 9:55 AM Comments comments (0)
2019 senior games are now behind us!

A special thanks goes to Mike Fitzgerald for organizing the officials and their schedules for us this year! I'd also like to thank her for running the officials training sessions and player format & rules workshops with Wayne Anderson's help. These events always help to put the officials and players on the same page regarding rules and format of the games.

Thanks to this year's officials for their help in making the games a step above. It would be difficult to have a competition of this caliber without you!

Mike added a nice touch to the officials with the ball cleaning cloths! I hope the officials used them at all locations during the event. I was away when they were handed out and brought my own. The players seemed to appreciate it.

Congratulations too to ALL participants in this year's games. Billiards had 440 spots filled making us one of the largest senior games sports in The Villages!

GOOD JOB EVERYONE!
