On their first visit to The Villages from Lima, Ohio David and Karen Longwell say that they met many great people through playing “social” billiards and on return visits they felt very welcomed by the billiards community even though they were “just visitors.”
Dave and Karen have played billiards for ten years and they also enjoy tennis and golf. Their favorite game is 8-ball. The couple appreciates the fun and challenging events that the VBC sponsors. Karen was initially going to watch Dave play in the Billiards Olympics but he gave her two lessons in 9-ball and she went on to win Gold in her category! The couple also won First Place in the Sunday Night Mixed Doubles at Allamanda Recreation Center.
In 44 years of marriage the couple has enjoyed building and buying and selling over 7 homes. In 2012 they bought and then sold their first Villages’ home in a record five months. They thought it would be their “last” home, but now they reside in The Village of Charlotte.
Dave worked as a laborer at Ford Motor Company for 38 years and Karen was a stay at home mom with her children in the early years and did sales later in life. They have two children, five grandchildren and will soon welcome a new great-grandchild.
Their hobbies include: air gun, stained glass and Dave does woodworking and woodcarving. They enjoy live theater and anything NEW. In coming years they look forward to traveling. Dave and Karen are impressed with how well the VBC is run and appreciative that the club welcomes players at all levels of play.
